A. Introduction

At Fisher Scientific UK Ltd we are committed to safeguarding your privacy. We believe that the best way to protect the privacy of our customers and suppliers is to tell you what information we gather and ensure that you understand and consent to our uses of such information. We set out below answers to frequently asked questions regarding our website Privacy Policy.

Depending on the nature of the information you provide, certain legislative protections may apply to our processing of your information including the EU Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. We will of course ensure that we comply with any applicable legislation which aims to protect your privacy.

B. What information do we collect? How do we use it?

We may ask you for certain information such as contact information, telephone numbers, fax numbers, your email address, your location and the name of your organisation. This information is stored on our databases. The databases enable Fisher Scientific to collect personal information from you, to do business with you and respond to your queries.

From time to time we may wish to use the information you supply to us for the following additional purposes:

• to inform you about other products and services which we provide and which we consider may be of interest to you (which may include contacting you by telephone);
• to provide your information to other Fisher Scientific companies who may wish to get in touch with you about products or services
• We (or the third parties referred to above) may contact you by email, fax, direct mail or telephone.


You should note that any of these companies could be located outside the European Economic Area (EEA) in countries whose privacy laws are not as strict as those within the EEA. However we will always take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and adequately protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

We will not use your information for one or more of the purposes set out above if you have indicated that you do not wish us to do so when submitting your information through the registration process to us. In addition, you can opt-out of any of these uses of data at any subsequent time by writing to the Response Administrator at Fisher Scientific, Bishop Meadow Road, LOUGHBOROUGH, LE11 5RG or email webhelp@thermofisher.com with the words "opt out" in the subject, and elect not to receive communications. We will stop using your information for these purposes as soon as it is reasonably possible to do so after we receive your request to that effect.

Fisher Scientific also does research on our customer demographics, interests, and purchasing based on the information provided to us through web registration, purchasing activity and other promotional activity. From data surveys and our computer files we use software analysis tools to better understand and serve our users.

Fisher Scientific UK Ltd is registered under the United Kingdom Data Protection Act 1998.

C. Do we share the information we receive?

In order to carry on business, certain functions such as document disposal, storage and disaster recovery may be provided to us by other Fisher Scientific companies and/or third parties. Where this is the case we will enter into an agreement with the party providing the service to us that reflect our commitments under this Privacy Policy.

We will otherwise only share your information with other Fisher Scientific companies or third parties if we have your prior consent or unless required by law, local regulators or law enforcement officers.
 

D. Are there any security issues?

We take the security of your data seriously. Therefore, once we receive your information, we always take steps to ensure its security on our systems and at our offices. Unfortunately no data transmission can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we will strive to protect your personal information once we have received it, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of the transmission of any information you transmit to us and you do so at your own risk.

Within Fisher Scientific, employees (or agents working on behalf of Fisher Scientific and under confidentiality agreements) will have access to stored customer information. Access to all customer data is limited to a small number of individuals who hold responsibility for maintenance and security of the data.

Once registered your browser may alert you that a cookie is being sent to your PC. The purpose of this cookie is to store your username so each time you connect to www.fisher.co.uk the username is pre-entered and you only need remember your password.
 

E. Worldwide transfer of your data

The dynamics of today’s world may mean that information is sent electronically outside of the country where you originally entered the information. In addition, that information may be used, stored and processed outside the country where your information was received. While there is a risk that countries to which information is transferred will not be subject to an information protection regime as rigorous as that of the European Union, Fisher Scientific will always take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and adequately protected in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

G. Merger

If in the future Fisher Scientific merges with, acquires or is sold to another business, we may share files and email records with our business and merger partners.

By providing information to us, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information by us as described at sections B, C and G above. You may revoke your consent at any time to any of our processing of your personal data.
