Supplier Based Rationalisation

Reduced administration costs
Focused supply and contract management
Improved material flow

Supplier Base Rationalisation (SBR) is an extremely powerful method of delivering cost savings and improved customer service. Consolidating business with key suppliers and utilising their ability to source from non-key suppliers cuts administrative overheads and enables procurement functions to focus on achieving significant added value for the business.

In all stages of the order cycle a wide range of operational and administrative savings will result from an effective supplier reduction program. Purchase requisition generation, expediting, delivery, stores management, internal delivery, payment and payment queries are all areas where administrative cost reductions will be seen.

Resource released by SBR programs can be re-directed towards delivering a higher level of service to end users and ongoing effective contract management. Service development by its very nature will benefit businesses, either reducing cost or providing better customer service. Time spent on contract management will allow both the customer and supplier to set appropriate performance standards, carry out regular reviews and ensure that targets are met.

Integrated Supply Team (IST):

To facilitate our SBR programme Fisher Scientific has created a dedicated team to procure non-catalogue products. Our Integrated Supply Team, established in 1998, is a team of seven experienced buyers who are responsible for the implementation and ongoing management of all Fisher Scientific's supplier reduction agreements. A greatly increased range of products is available through Fisher Scientific's IST as a result of existing supplier reduction programs. These products may be ordered through our electronic catalogue, as well as via traditional ordering methods.

The key to achieving success is for both parties to work closely together at all times. Fisher Scientific has significant experience and success in this area. Our recommendation is to adopt a project management approach based around five key areas:

Supplier analysis
Process analysis
Project planning
Communication
Implementation and review
