Countess™: Automated cell counting at your fingertips

Dear Researcher,

Accurate cell counting is a critical step for your downstream applications. Unfortunately, some of the current methods pose some challenges:

Haemocytometer: a time-intensive method, user-dependent and may not be reliable.

Flow based cell counter: calibration, cleaning or waste bottle are needed as well as possible exposure to hazardous material. May also require external microscope or computer to visualise cells and perform calculation.

Invitrogen has launched the Countess™ a new automatic cell counter which features:

  • A Disposal slide based on the Neubauer pattern. This will eliminate the need for flow based cell counting as well as cleaning and waste bottle.
  • A sophisticated image analysis algorithm to produce accurate cell and viability counts with trypan blue.
  • A counting time of 30 seconds and using only 10 µl of your sample
  • Count from 1 × 104 to 1 × 107 cells/ml with the highest accuracy between 1 × 105 cells/ml and 4 × 106 cells/ml
  • Measurement of average cell size. Count cells with size between 5µm and 60µm: mammalian, insect, blood cells, etc
  • Data and images archiving functions which can exported through USB to storage device
  • Touch Screen
