Accelerate Drug Discovery Process with Maybridge Quick2Lead Compound Kits

Thermo Fisher Scientific Accelerates Drug Discovery Process with New Maybridge Quick2Lead™ Compound Kits

Fast, simple and convenient building block kits advance hit-to-lead programmes

TINTAGEL, UK (17 March 2009) – Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, announced today that it has introduced a novel tool to accelerate hit-to-lead programmes in the drug discovery process. Its Maybridge Quick2Lead™ Compound Kits are designed to save time and money by enabling rapid compound library synthesis around bioactive “hits” emerging from screening assays. The kits are made up of pre-weighed, diverse building block selections, facilitating rapid capture of structure-activity (SAR) data from the closely related structural analogues within the library.

Quick2Lead Compound Kits are available as five functionality-based kits, with each one containing 48 carefully selected compounds. This enables the exploration of a wide area of chemical space to maximise credible SAR data acquisition for the successful conversion of an initial hit into a genuine, optimisable lead. Since these compounds are all pre-weighed, the kits are ready to use by simply adding solvent and transferring straight to a synthesiser.

Maybridge Fragments Selected by Nordlund Centre

Thermo Fisher Scientific Maybridge Fragments Selected by Nordlund Centre for Biomedical Structural Biology

Maybridge Ro3 500 Fragment Library to support establishment of new fragment screening-based drug discovery platform

TINTAGEL, UK (March 9, 2010) – Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced that the Nordlund Centre for Biomedical Structural Biology at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore has purchased its Maybridge Ro3 500 Fragment Library. Nordlund will use this “off-the-shelf” set of 500 pharmacophorically-rich Maybridge compounds as a benchmark fragment library to optimize structure-based screening methods for a diverse set of drug candidates. The ultimate objective of the project is to understand the optimal screening protocols for different protein target families and to publish these results for the scientific and drug discovery community.

The new Nordlund Centre, based in the prestigious Biopolis hub in Singapore, is headed by Professor Pär Nordlund, a renowned structural biologist and visiting professor from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm. Through this comparative study, the Nordlund team will establish a platform for the efficient generation of chemical probes using fragment-based methods. The six- to nine-month study will guide researchers and the entire industry on the preferred fragment screening technique for several protein classes.

The study includes seven protein classes, including HsP90. The group will assess fragment binding in each protein class using a range of standard techniques, including ITC, NMR, SPR, DSF and X-ray crystallography.

“We selected the Maybridge Fragment library as a benchmark for our comparative study as it is a globally renowned and industry recognised set of diverse and high-quality compounds,” said Dr. Andreas Larsson, project leader within the Nordlund group. “Of particular interest to us was the validated aqueous solubility data provided by Maybridge scientists, where solubility checks up to five mMol in aqueous phosphate buffer have been measured.”

Mole will change commencing today 01-04-2010

Due to the recent ruling from The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC); the definition of the Mole will change commencing today 01-04-2010.

The old definition of the Mole, ‘The amount of a substance that contains as many atoms, molecules, ions, or other elementary units as the number of atoms in 0.012 Kilogram of carbon 12.

The number is 6.0225 × 1023, or Avogadro’s number’ is now redundant. The change has come about due to the re-evaluation of the definition of the number of entities in 0.012Kg if pure Carbon 12 following recent studies at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. The Higgs Boson has now been included in the definition.

It is thought that with a ratio of 3 Higgs Bosons per Proton or Neutron, Avagadro’s Number now stands at 18.067 × 1023.

Make sure you read the following…
