The marketers are also supporting the Trust with the design of a brand new logo, culminating in an official re-launch to celebrate the Trust’s progression to incorporated status later this year.

The project is the latest initiative for the Fisher Scientific, Loughborough Community Action Council, which encourages and supports employee volunteerism and links skills and interests within the company to the needs of the local community. It’s a chance to make a real difference to local people.

The Peter Le Marchant Trust has been caring for the people of Loughborough and beyond for over 35 years, providing day trips and holidays on waterways for anyone who is disabled or seriously ill. Needless to say, the staff at Fisher Scientific jumped at the chance to lend a hand. The Trust’s Director of Development, Barbie Coulson, commented – “We are so excited that Fisher Scientific, as part of their commitment to local community action, is bringing professional marketing and PR expertise to help the Trust. Already we have benefited from their creative design ideas which are modernizing the Trust’s image and the very practical help they have given in quality printing. This type of assistance makes a vital contribution to ensuring the Trust’s continued development”.

The project will continue over the next six months. If you would like to learn more about the work of the Peter Le Marchant Trust, visit their website at www.peterlemarchanttrust.co.ukTo follow the progress of the project and learn more about upcoming events, connect with `us on facebook and twitter.

At a recent exhibition at the Leicester University Department of Chemistry, we met customer Vicki Davison who is working at the University on a PhD in Chemical Biology. Vicki informed us of her involvement with the charity ‘Tearfund’ – a world-wide project which works with communities affected by HIV and Aids.

Having spotted our super Fisher Scientific Frisbees at the exhibition, Vicki asked if we would be willing to donate a stock of the toys to some of the children receiving care from the charity; these children live on the streets, mostly orphaned by HIV and AIDS. The charity workers travel out to the streets and build relationships with the kids by feeding and supporting them. They then invite the children to live at a transit centre with a focus on providing them with a ‘normal’ life and safe relationships with adults and other children. They are taken to school and looked after until they recover enough to be re-integrated into their families (if possible) and the communities that they were brought up in.

We were moved and impressed by Vicki’s story and the important work of ‘Tearfund’ and so were very happy to donate 100 frisbees to the cause. A small gesture on our part that would hopefully bring a little fun to the children.

Vicki was able to deliver the gifts in person during her visit to Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa, specifically to the JCM (Jesus Cares Ministries) project in Lusaka, Zambia where they were donated to a transit centre for orphaned and abused children.

We wish Vicki and everyone at Tearfund every success for their future projects.

Robbie who is studying chemistry at The University of Huddersfield, approached Fisher Scientific for some scientific ‘freebies’ whilst working in the University’s chemical stores department during his work placement year. On receipt of the goodies, Robbie was then able to deliver the periodic tables in person to Kyoga primary school during his 3rd visit to Uganda this summer.

Robbie became involved in the project through the local church in his hometown of York with the charity Food for the Hungry. The charity specialises in ‘income generating projects’ to create sustainable living in deprived areas of the world as well as child sponsoring, HIV and AIDS work and building projects.

During Robbie’s visits to Uganda he has contributed to the successful building of 4 classrooms, a medical centre and teaching and nursing accommodation and he describes his time in Africa as “Amazing”. We found his story inspiring, and are honored to have contributed to the project.
