For our extra special 21st event celebrations we welcome back some old favourites; Dr Hal will WOW the crowds with his Bigger Bang Elemental Spectacular, our resident caricaturist David Lewis will be thrilling the crowds with his witty portraits and the talented Alison Russell will bring the traditional skill of ‘silhouetting’ to life for those who fancy a unique memento of their Science World visit.

BRAND NEW for 2012 we welcome the marvelous Miss Ballooniverse, along with relaxing massage and manicures to soothe tension and pamper those hands – after grabbing all those Science World freebies.

Leicester University has been a loyal Fisher Scientific customer for over 20 years. Recently, Dr Andrew Jamieson presented Fisher Scientific with the challenge of providing an energy efficient replacement for the out of date water aspirators used in the Synthetic Chemistry laboratory.

Until recently, the synthetic chemistry laboratory at the University of Leicester used water aspirators to generate the vacuum required by the rotary evaporators used by its researchers. The vacuum created by water aspirators is inefficient and wastes around 250L of water per hour. Replacing the 8 water aspirators with vacuum pumps will save the laboratory around £2,000 per year in water costs and an astonishing 520,000L of water per year. Read the rest of this entry »

Fisher Scientific today announced the opening of a new pipette service laboratory in Loughborough.

The pipette service laboratory provides complete service, repair and calibration for a range of Thermo Scientific Matrix pipettes including Impact I and II, multi and single channel. The laboratory offers:

• Calibration to standard or manufacturer’s specifications on request
• ‘As found’ service for pipettes used in GMP work
• Repair and function checks on Thermo Scientific Cellmate pipettes

Fisher Scientific today confirmed the dates for their ‘Activate Science’ events planned across the UK and Ireland during September through to November 2011.

Activate Science is an interactive scientific laboratory event aimed at everyone involved within the laboratory environment who either specify, use or purchase products. World leading suppliers from the laboratory industry will be exhibiting and demonstrating some of the latest technologies available.

• Product exhibition giving the opportunity for visitors to discuss any requirements they have with Application Specialists
• A selection of technical seminars and presentations. Seminars will be both high and mid-range, to serve the needs of different technical levels
