The Fisher Scientific UK 2011 Activate Science Roadshow

Fisher Scientific today confirmed the dates for their ‘Activate Science’ events planned across the UK and Ireland during September through to November 2011.

Activate Science is an interactive scientific laboratory event aimed at everyone involved within the laboratory environment who either specify, use or purchase products. World leading suppliers from the laboratory industry will be exhibiting and demonstrating some of the latest technologies available.

Each event promises:

  • Product exhibition giving the opportunity for visitors to discuss any requirements they have with Application Specialists
  • A selection of technical seminars and presentations. Seminars will be both high and mid-range, to serve the needs of different technical levels
  • Product demonstrations with an opportunity for visitors to gain firsthand experience
  • Free entry and free refreshments

Researchers at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Oxford are developing new technology that can restore vision to people with very low sight.

The computer aided device uses a small camera, like the one in your mobile phone, and tiny LED lights set within an unobtrusive pair of glasses to produce images of the physical world. Dr Stephen Hicks, who presented the technology at this year’s Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, commented that the glasses could help people with macular degeneration or retinitis pigmentosa.

Fisher Scientific Life Science Live Roadshow Coming to a Lab Near You

Fisher Scientific is hitting the road this month with its Life Science Live Roadshow.


Life Science Roadshow

The roadshow is a series of 9 FREE seminars, each one at a different location as follows: Dundee, Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester, Cardiff, Southampton, Oxford, Leeds and Edinburgh.


The seminars are aimed, primarily, at individuals involved in genomics and proteomics. Areas to be covered include: siRNA, qPCR and protein analysis. There is also an exhibition highlighting products from the Thermo Scientific family: Abgene, Pierce, Hyclone, Dharmacon, plus many others including Macherey-Nagel, Millipore, GE and IBA.


Seminars begin at 10.00am and are expected to finish at 3.00pm. Complementary refreshments and lunch will be provided, and all delegates will receive sample packs of key products worth up to £500!
