Fisher Scientific’s Science World returns to Wembley Stadium in 2012 for a very special celebration. To commemorate the 21st Science World exhibition, we interviewed Emily Quinton, Marketing Promotions Manager, who has been involved with Science World since the first show in 1998.
Tell us a little bit about your background. When did you start working for Fisher Scientific?
I joined the company back in 1992 as Product Communications Manager which was heavily involved in ensuring consistency throughout our catalogue series, managing the proofing process and cross checking copy with suppliers and product managers. In those days the process was very heavily paper based with A3 job bags full of marked up catalogue pages – we even had to cut out and stick on the product images! When I had my first child I came back to work part time, working from home, and my job changed to ‘Communications Manager’ which meant responsibility for our PR programme – writing press release and feature articles for trade and local press, editing our company newsletters (Connections, Centrespread (Griffin), our internal newsletter + a supplier publication) + providing events support. I left the company to live in Canada between 2002 – 2007, and returned in 2007 as Promotions and Events Manager. I was promoted to Marketing Promotions Manager in 2009 – and now have responsibility for Events/exhibitions, PR, Web site, and Social Media. Read the rest of this entry »

Science World 2010 – The Fisher Scientific Laboratory Experience, held at Wembley Stadium the Venue of Legends on 15th April 2010, was an amazing success. Visitors left the event with many special memories, including a tour of the stadium and presentations from Lord Professor Winston and Professor David Bellamy – two of the country’s most eminent figures within the scientific community.
David Bellamy, due to speak in the afternoon, arrived early at 9.45 a.m., eager to take in the exhibition, chat with visitors and pose for photographs. He spent significant time visiting exhibition stands, showing a genuine interest in how far laboratory equipment technology has advanced over the years.
One stand he spent time on was Bollé Safety, manufacturers of stylish, comfortable safety glasses meeting customer demand for user compliance with health and safety standards in the workplace. David spent 15 minutes on the stand modelling several pairs of the safety glasses. After the visit ended, Gary Goodall, Regional Sales Manager (East) for Bollé, commented on &lsquote; What a charming, down-to-earth and intelligent man David is&rsquote;.
David Bellamy clearly enjoyed his time on the Bollé stand, remarking that he never realised there were so many different safety spectacles available. He commented that he was going on a family holiday soon (possibly taking in some mountains in France) so he was most appreciative of the tinted Safety eyeshields Bollé kindly gave to him.
