The God Delusion

April 11th, 2011

Richard Dawkins will be speaking at Science World in May

The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully.” – Richard Dawkins, The God Delusion

Come and meet Richard at Science World where he is one of our guest speakers on 26th May in Rotherham. Science World – more than just an exhibition, it’s a laboratory experience.

Religion may become extinct in nine nations

March 23rd, 2011

A study using census data from nine countries shows that religion there is set for extinction, say researchers. The study found a steady rise in those claiming no religious affiliation.

The team’s mathematical model attempts to account for the interplay between the number of religious respondents and the social motives behind being one.

The result, reported at the American Physical Society meeting in Dallas, US, indicates that religion will all but die out altogether in those countries.

Nearly two-thirds of people in the UK do not regard themselves as “religious”, a new survey carried out to coincide with the 2011 Census suggests.

The British Humanist Association (BHA), which commissioned the poll, said people often identified themselves as religious for cultural reasons.

The online poll asked 1,900 adults in England and Wales a question which is on this month’s census form.

What’s your view? Come and debate the topic at Science World on 26th May with Professor Richard Dawkins, bestselling author of ‘The Selfish Gene’ and ‘The God Delusion’ which has sold over 2 million copies.

One of the things that is wrong with religion is that it teaches us to be satisfied with answers which are not really answers at all‘. Richard Dawkins
